When Crockett Intermediate student Cristina Montesino<\/strong>s began to choke during lunch, teacher Rod Rammage<\/strong> knew what to do.<\/p>\n \u201cAs soon as Mr. Rammage noticed the student was choking, he called for Assistant Principal Regan Plata<\/strong> to radio for the nurse and immediately began performing the Heimlich maneuver,\u201d stated Principal Brock Blassingame<\/strong>. \u201cHer airway was completely blocked. She was unable to breathe or make a sound.\u201d<\/p>\n Due to Rammage\u2019s decisive actions, he had her airway cleared before the nurse arrived. Blassingame expressed, \u201cMr. Rammage has always been a valuable member of our team, but he has never been more valuable than he was that day in the cafeteria.\u201d<\/p>\n Rammage said, \u201cI saw she needed help and I just sprang into action.
