Alta Fay (Sugg) Preston || Obituary
Alta Fay (Sugg) Preston, 74, a beloved member of the Gadston Community, passed away Friday, April 24, 2025, at her home.
The family has scheduled a memorial service for 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28th at the Midway Christian Church in the Broadway Community. Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled graveside services for 1:30 p.m. Monday at Lake Creek Cemetery with Rev. Brad Miller and Rev. Mark Sanders officiating.
Mrs. Preston, the daughter of Rupard Theodore Sugg Sr. and Era Lee Taylor Sugg, was born February 8, 1951, in Lamar County, TX.
She attended school in Cunningham. Alta worked at Gray’s Fruit Stand & Cafe a number of years and then went on the road with her husband, Jimmy, while he was trucking. She was a member of the Midway Christian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmy Dale Preston, all her siblings, Rupard Sugg Jr., Virgil Sugg, Darrell Sugg, Billy Joe Sugg, Sherry Carroll, Sandra Hatcher, and Betty Simpson, and her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Jamie & Johnnie Preston.
Survivors include two step-daughters, Sheila Gray and Jennifer Gonzalez, grandchildren, Justin Gray, Noah Gonzalez, and Tea Gonzalez, sister-in-law, Pat Gilbert & husband Tom, brother-in-law, Jerry Preston & wife Cecilia, sister-in-law, Katherine Sugg, brother-in-law, Cody Clay Simpson, her “adopted granddaughter”, Gabby Miller, and many nieces, nephews, & cousins along with numerous friends and her beloved dog, Rowdy.
For all those who knew Alta, knew she loved “big”. She was loyal, loved by all, and cared greatly for others. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Midway Christian Church.
