Steven Baker || Obituary
Steven Baker, 84, of Paris, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Legend Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.
The family has scheduled memorial services for 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27th at Providence Baptist Church with Rev. Allan Hubbard officiating. Cremation was under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home.
Steven, the son of Lawrence Phillip Baker & Gertrude Goldie Freedman Baker, was born April 14, 1941, in Canton, OH.
As a child, his family moved to Blue Springs, MO. There, he graduated from high school and went to Ohio State University on a football scholarship. He played one season before he was injured. At that time, Steve was drafted into the United States Army. He was a helicopter pilot and received two Purple Hearts during the Vietnam War. He also received a bronze star and a silver star for valor over and beyond the call of duty. Steven retired from the military following 32 years of service to his country. After his military service, he owned and operated Baker Construction Company before retiring again.
He was a founder of the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial and served on the first board of the memorial. He was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders. Steven’s hobbies included singing karaoke, working in his shop, gardening, and grilling. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
His parents, a son, Ross Baker, and a brother, Paul Baker, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Norton, one son, Brent Baker, two grandsons, Brandon Baker & Ryan Baker, a sister, Pam Warrick, and two stepchildren, Terre Gaston and Marty B. Shelton along with a plethora of friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd. Saten Island, NY 10306 (T2T.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
