Thaddus Joe Moore || Obituary
Thaddus Joe Moore passed from this life to the next suddenly on April 18, 2025, after a short battle with cardiac complications.
Joe was born on April 2, 1945, to William Dyer Moore of Caviness, Texas, and Martha Ellen (Morris) Moore of Cooper, Texas. He graduated high school from Powderly High School in 1963.
He was the youngest and last remaining of eight siblings. He grew up loving basketball, hunting, and fishing. He devoted his life to his children, spending many years coaching his son and teammates in baseball and attending games of his grandsons. He loved horses early in his life and spent much time with his daughter teaching her to ride. Some of his fondest memories were of hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, Wade Moore and Chase Moore, and his nephew, Brandon Cashion. As his grandsons had families of their own, he enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors, fishing in the pond out back, potlucks, and fourth of July celebrations with his great-grandchildren. He loved spending time on the family deer lease and spent many wonderful hours sharing this tradition with all who would learn and listen.
Joe worked many years at Babcock and Wilcox as a welder and in other positions before his retirement when the plant shut down in 1998. Afterwards, he would meet many people through working as a handman for minor house repairs and finally in the lawn business, where he hired and became life-long friends and partners with Matt Skinner.
His most endearing love was for God and in living a Christian life. He loved the Lord, and as he grew older, he loved studying the Word more in depth with others who shared his faith.
He lived much of his adult life married to Doris (Cashion) Moore of Powderly. They divorced in 1992. In time, they both met their true-life partners, and in 2010, he married Judy Zwick, with whom he lived his last fifteen years. Together they shared their faith and many adventures of hunting and fishing, and watching deer out their living room window.
Joe is preceded in death by sisters Willie Maggard (and husband), Mildred (Gavin) Pool, Irene (Pete) Holmes, Janet (Richard) Hodges, and brothers Lee (Roxy) Moore, Cecil (Lilli Mae) Moore, and Cleburne (Polette) Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Zwick, previous wife, Doris Moore (Bill Merritt), brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Wanda Tharp, their sons Chad (Jessica) Tharp and Brian (Jennifer and sons, Matthew and Christopher), son, Joe Darren (Angie) Moore, daughter, Tina McLean (Scott Ruby), grandsons, Wade (Cassie) Moore, Chase (Jadyn Ridling) Moore, great-grandsons, Wyatt, Coltin, and Noah Moore; great granddaughter Harper Moore, Alyssa Moore, and step-great-grandchildren Walker McKee, Creedence Martinez, Serenity Brummett, Trinity Moore, Maverick Leach, and multiple nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Lamar Avenue Church of Christ on Tuesday, April 22nd, at 1pm.
Cremation was under the care and direction of Bright-Holland Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Donations made be made in Joe’s memory to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital per his wishes at stjude.org.
