First graders at Justiss Elementary are in for an egg-citing learning experience! Jaci Eaves, Lamar County 4-H coordinator, recently visited the school to teach students about the fascinating process of eggs hatching into chicks. As part of this hands-on educational program, 4-H provided incubators for each first-grade classroom, allowing students to observe the incubation process firsthand. During the visit, Eaves explained each stage of development, from fertilized eggs to fully hatched chicks, and shared the science behind the 21-day journey to hatching.

“This project gives students a real-world look at life sciences and agriculture,” said Eaves. “It’s a unique opportunity for them to witness the cycle of life up close and take part in a truly memorable learning experience.”

Over the next three weeks, students will monitor the incubators, eagerly awaiting the moment when the chicks break free from their shells. This project not only teaches patience and responsibility but also deepens students’ understanding of biology and agricultural science.
