At 21:48 Witnesses reported a disturbance in the 700 block of NE 12th. Upon arrival, officers met with the suspect, Keonta Kiar Morris (29) of Paris, and a family member, the victim. It was discovered that Morris had assaulted the family member by striking her in the head with his fist, and other violent physical acts. Morris was arrested for outstanding municipal warrants at that time. As the investigation continued, it was learned that Morris had taken the victim’s cell phone and “Thrown it into the yard” when she was attempting to call 911. Morris was also charged with Assault of a Family Member with bodily Injury and Interference with an Emergency Phone Call. It was discovered that Morris had been previously convicted of Family Violence, so his assault charge was enhanced to Felony status. Morris was booked at the Police Department. During booking, the victim’s phone and car keys were located on Morris’ person.

Paris Police responded to a motor vehicle injury accident in the 5700 block of Bonham St. One of the drivers was trapped in a Nissan passenger car and a second driver was in a damaged International box truck. Once the driver of the Nissan vehicle, David Bozarth was extracted from his vehicle, both drivers were treated by Paris EMS and then transported to PRMC. Bozarth admitted to EMS personnel that he had used narcotics before driving. Officers spoke with several witnesses who established that Bozarth crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the other vehicle. Bozarth was not arrested due to the severity of his injuries. The case remains under investigation.

Officers received a report of an Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the 1300 block of W. Houston St. The caller advised that a known suspect had attempted to stab him with a knife. Officers arrived and established that no threats had been made and no actions indicating an assault had happened. A report was taken and the knife in question was placed into evidence.

18:08 Paris Police assisted Paris Fire Department and Paris EMS with a drowning incident which occurred at Lake Crook Park. The victim, a thirty year old male, entered the water to recover an item, disappeared beneath the water, and never resurfaced. The Paris Fire Department and Texas Game Wardens responded for recovery efforts and the victim was recovered at approximately 21:41. Officers spoke with multiple witnesses to the incident and took statements. The victim was taken to American Forensics for autopsy. The incident remains under investigation.

An officer investigated an Assault of a Pregnant Person which occurred in the 1200 block of SE 15th. The victim had gone to drop off a child to the child’s father, also the suspect, when without explanation or reason, the suspect struck her in the head with his fist twice and then struck her in the stomach. The victim left the scene immediately and stated she began having contractions almost immediately. She then drove to Paris Regional Health Center Women’s Center where police were called. The victim advised that the suspect has committed offenses similar to this before, but she did not report them. The incident is under investigation.

Officers performed a security check at 820 Clarksville St. and located two suspects inside the property apparently stealing copper pipe from the unoccupied building. The subjects were identified and warrants will be obtained. Officers also recovered video of several other known suspects entering the building and exiting with stolen metals from the building. Warrants will be forthcoming.
Officers made 43 traffic stops, 9 adult arrest, and answered 323 calls for service for this reporting period.
