Sybil Joyce Preston Martin || Obituary

Sybil Joyce Preston Martin passed away peacefully at her home, on March 17, 2025. She was born in the Broadway/Gadston Community on February 6, 1939, to Hildra Carter Preston and Vera Womack Preston, both of whom preceded her in death. Sybil has two sisters, Bobbie McFadden of Garland, Texas, and Faye Hambrick, who preceded her in death, and one brother, Jimmy Preston, and his wife Bobbie Preston of Paris, Texas. Sybil married Ray Martin, Jr. on May 25, 1957, and together they raised their family of five children in the Broadway/Gadston Community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray, on July 26, 2017.

 

Sybil worked for many years as the tax assessor-collector for the Delmar Independent School District and finished her career by retiring from the United States Postal Service in Paris. Sybil is survived by her children: Lisa Jones (and her husband, Ditzler Jones), Laura Skidmore (and her husband, David Skidmore), Guy Martin (and his wife, Terri Martin), Jana Miller (and her husband, Kevin Miller), and Shawn Harris. She leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren: Harley Skidmore, Raynie Lollar, Cassie Crutcher, Dustin Harris, Hunter Jones, Reagan Roach, Jordie Harris, Skylar Miller, and Brittany Mularkey, as well as 14 great-grandchildren and her beloved nieces and nephews as well as numerous friends and other close family.

 

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Harley Skidmore, Dustin Harris, Hunter Jones, Jordie Harris and Skylar Miller, along with Rhett Crutcher. Services will be provided by Bright-Holland Funeral Home on Friday, March 21, 2025, with family visitation at 2:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Reverend Mark Sanders at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at McDonald Cemetery.
