Stanley Dean Abbott || Obituary
Stanley Dean Abbott, 85, of Mineral Wells walked peacefully into the arms of Jesus on March 17, 2025. Stanley was born on December 2, 1939, to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Abbott in Taylortown, Texas. He was the middle child between two sisters whom he loved dearly. The considerably younger Norma recalls him walking her to class and checking on her during the school day. Stanley attended Cunningham High School where he excelled in academics and basketball. He graduated as salutatorian in 1958. After attending Paris Junior College Stanley served his country in the US Army from 1963-1965. He was a proud member of the 2nd Armored Division that played a major role in “The Big Lift” in 1963-64. This joint operation was the largest ever at the time and proved that the US military could mobilize its forces in an extremely efficient manner all the way across the world. After his time in Germany, Stanley was posted stateside at Ft. Hood for the rest of his term. Upon returning he courted and married the love of his life, Shirley Preston. They had two sons together who would both graduate college and raise beautiful families of their own. Stanley remained steadfast and loyal to Shirley right up until her death in 1987. He never found another who could measure up with Shirley, so he never remarried.
Stanley’s career path took him into advertising at The Paris News and KPRE radio. Because of his knack for all things mechanical he was also successful as a metal fabricator at Babcock and Wilcox. As an avid outdoorsman he taught his boys to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors. He also taught the boys to work with their hands and make their own repairs to home and autos. Stanley was a talented musician and singer. He alongside Shirley used these talents to further God’s kingdom at First Assembly of God church in Paris. He volunteered his time to be a Sunday school teacher as well as a Royal Ranger leader and helped establish a bus ministry.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife Shirley. He is survived by his two sisters, Norma Dixon and Charlene Potter; sons Shawn and wife Cescily; Stacy and wife Leigha; grandchildren Alan Abbott and wife Madison; Lindsey Abbott and Carina Abbott; and his longtime friend Dwaine Hearn.
The family wishes donations would be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
