North Lamar HOSA Encourages Colon Cancer Awareness in a Unique Way

February 20, 2025

Colon cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths, but early detection can save lives. The North Lamar Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) are taking a creative approach to raising awareness by delivering toilets and plungers throughout the community—sparking conversation and action.

HOSA students hope this lighthearted, yet impactful campaign encourages individuals aged 45-75 to prioritize their health. By scheduling a colonoscopy screening with a primary care physician, community members can take a critical step toward prevention and early detection.

“There is a large amount of people that get colon cancer because there is so much embarrassment around getting a colonoscopy.  If we can normalize this by placing toilets on your doorstep, then that’s what we will do” says HOSA student Devi Nair.

Through this initiative, North Lamar HOSA students aim to turn awareness into action, promoting life-saving screenings that can detect colon cancer in its earliest stages.
