It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Grandpa Chock also known as Lloyd “Chock” Whelchel.

Chock and I met when Lloyd’s little dog had passed suddenly, and he wanted to take him home to his parents’ land. His Dad put on his boots then went out with his son to help bury his dog. Chock was an Army Veteran who specialized in diesel mechanics. He could hear the faintest noise and tell you what was wrong with your engine. It was impressive to me. Thomas took over his dad’s expertise. Chock loved his Wife Carolyn, boys Joseph, Lloyd, Thomas and his little niece Wendy with all his heart. He lived a life of love for his farm animals, raising cows, chickens, horses and dogs. He was the smartest and most stubborn man I have ever met but if you knew his story you would understand why. While stationed at Fort Hood, he witnessed a helicopter crash with 12 active-duty men on board. By the time his crew finished helping with the devastation they were hosed down, required to find

family and all shut down. He would constantly remind other units about procedures and why they are followed.

He hated laziness, which is why he told his kids, if you don’t want to stay in this town you better have a plan so his twin boys decided playing football while in college would do the trick. Joseph signed up for the Army and did 5 tours after graduating, Lloyd went on to Law School, Thomas went on to learn more about mechanics, and Wendy learned a profession in Brail. His happiness was his kid’s achievements. Carolyn and Chock were married 56 years and 6 months. Carolyn was a successful Real Estate agent, and Chock just loved his family dearly, watching them grow from a far and always being a phone call away. I’ll never forget how he stood next to Lloyd and Alex at our wedding, I’ll never forget how we scrambled to get things done last minute and Chock was calm, helped non-stop and did what he could. He would tell me that Luke was going to be a big boy and ware me out the way the twins wore him out. Oh boy. When the boys were young, he would tell them “Here read this, it’ll tell you all about the world” and they would, having an appreciation for reading books.

Chock, there will never be another man quite like you. May you rest in peace and find your longtime friends and close family at the gates of heaven. I smile knowing that you and my grandpa can chit chat a little longer this time.
