Marilyn Sue Smith || Obituary

January 17, 2025

Marilyn Sue Smith, affectionately known as “Aunt Sue” by many, went to be with the Lord on January 15, 2025, in Paris, Texas, at the age of 80. Born on May 12, 1944, in Paris, Texas.

Sue was a beloved sister, aunt, friend, and a steadfast woman of faith.
Sue was preceded in death by her loving parents, Cleo and Malvern Smith. She is survived by her cherished sister, Mary Lou Morton, and her brother-in-law, Ronnie Morton, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who were blessed by her love and care.
Sue dedicated her life to serving God, her family, and her community. A lifelong member of her church, United Pentecostal Church of Paris, Texas, she found joy in supporting others and lived her faith quietly but profoundly. She delighted in reading, photography, birdwatching, and caring for plants, often finding beauty in the simplest moments. Her generosity was evident in her thoughtful gifts, like purchasing books for young pastors and her nieces and nephews, and in her unwavering support of her loved ones.
Sue spent many years working as a surgical technician at Paris Regional Medical Center, where she was deeply respected and loved by her coworkers. Her dedication and expertise left a lasting impression on both her colleagues and the doctors who missed her presence after her retirement.
To her family, Sue was a quiet pillar of strength. She was the “laundry fairy,” the never-ending dishwasher, and the silent cheerleader who made everyone’s lives easier. With a precious spirit and fierce devotion, she protected and nurtured those she loved. Her wisdom, rooted in her faith, was a source of encouragement to her church family and friends. Sue’s love for humor—especially slapstick comedy—her curiosity for interesting facts, and her knack for home remedies added to her endearing character.
Sue’s family and friends will forever cherish the love, strength, and grace she shared. Though she often blended into the background, she left a significant mark on the hearts of those who knew her.
A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at The United Pentecostal Church on January 21st, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Robert Myre officiating. The family will receive friends and family at 10:00 AM at the church.
The family requests for memorials to be made in Sue’s honor to the United Pentecostal Church Beautification Fund.
