Rebecca Jane Gough || Obituary

January 13, 2025

Rebecca (“Becky” or most often later in life, “Nana”) Jane Gough, 84, went home to be with Jesus on January 9, 2025, in Big Spring, Tx. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, January 17, 2025, in the chapel of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Gardens. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM till 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.

Rebecca was born on September 24, 1940, to Morgan and Kathryn Hancock of Petty, Tx. She had one sister, Judy Hancock Woerner.

She married Eddie Gough on January 5, 1962 and they built their life of over 25 years together in Paris, Tx. They had two children, Kathy and Karen. After Eddie passed, she never remarried, but instead spent the remainder of her life caring for her family, including her Granddaughter, Kara, whom she raised as her own. Becky had four grandchildren, Kara, Ryan, Michael, and Morgan, and five great-grandchildren, Kenleigh Paige, Brooks Ryan (or little Brook, as she called him), Greyson Jesse Thomas, Liberty Grace, and Millie Tate.

Most people lovingly know Becky from her role as the hostess at the Fish Fry. There, she had this special way of making everyone feel like she “worked them in” even when there were no reservations left. She enjoyed visiting with all of her friends several nights a week there for 35-odd years. She loved all animals and sports of any kind – and rarely missed any sort of ball game on TV, often planning things around when the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers played. Later in life, she even rooted for Mahomes and his KC Chiefs.

In 2020 after she was finally unable to live alone any longer, she relocated west to Coahoma, Tx. There, she gained a “family” when she became a member of Midway Baptist Church. Nana fit right in there, and loved singing and listening to Brother Mike preach- even though she never forgot about the time he “made fun” of her hair. As her battle with dementia progressed, Kenleigh became her primary caregiver, her best buddy, and sometimes, her “partner-in-crime”. She still loved attending church, their weekly trips to the hair and nail salon, and lunch outings. She remained at home for as long as she could before ultimately moving to Big Spring Center for Skilled Care in 2023.

Becky is preceded in death by her parents, husband Eddie, sister Judy, daughter Karen, son-in-law Ross, and great-granddaughter, Kenleigh.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Ward of Paris, daughter Kara Vines and husband Lanny of Coahoma, grandson Ryan Glover and wife Courtney of Paris, grandson Michael Glover and wife Hailey of Shady Spring, WV, and granddaughter Morgan Greer and husband Matt of Paris. Great-grandchildren Brooks Ryan and Millie Glover, Greyson Greer, and Liberty Glover. Nieces and nephews, Jeri-Kay Woerner Powell and husband, Rhett, Jeff Woerner and wife, Shannon, and Greg Woerner, and wife Memory. A whole host of cousins, special friends, her Midway Baptist family, and her “baby” – her dog, Layla.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her nurse, Lisa, and the rest of staff at Interim Hospice and at BSCSC.
