Rebecca “Becky” Blackhurst Nash
Becky Nash passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, at her home in Paris, Texas.  Visitation will be at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home on Monday, January 13th from 5:30 – 7:30 pm with a Rosary at 7:00 pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, January 14th at 2:00 pm at Our Lady of Catholic Church.  Fr. Gavin Vaverek and Fr. Sean Martin officiating.

Rebecca Ann Blackhurst Nash was born on September 26, 1943, in Meadville, Pennsylvania.  Becky was the first of three children born to Fredrick Lee and Adelaide Karns Blackhurst.   Living the life of an Army brat, Becky’s early childhood years took her from Pennsylvania to Heidelberg, Germany, Austin, Texas, Martinsville, Indiana, and finally back to her “hometown” of Franklin, Pennsylvania.

After graduating from Franklin High School in 1962, Becky and her friend, Judi, set out for Washington, DC with a suitcase each and enough money for two weeks to find a job and a place to live. During her time in DC, she met a young Navy musician, Gary Nash.  Becky and Gary were married on July 2, 1966, in Franklin, PA.  Just six months later in December, Gary received his military discharge and he and Becky made the cross-country move to Paris to start their new life together.

They welcomed their first child, Stephen, in May of 1970 and then a daughter, Stacey, in March of 1973. An amazing and devoted wife and mother, Becky dedicated herself to raising her children, never missing a game, performance, or recital.  She was her family’s biggest cheerleader.  Once she became a grandmother, she was lovingly known as “BB” and her grandchildren were always welcome at “Camp Yes!” (aka BB and Poppo’s house).
Becky was involved in the Paris Jaycee-ettes, YWCA, Paris Garden Study Club, King’s Daughters, P.E.O., and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.

Becky and Gary enjoyed many years of traveling together and with friends before his death in 2022.  A few of their favorite destinations include New Orleans, Santa Fe, and South Padre Island.  They shared 55 years of marriage.  Also preceding her in death are her son, Stephen Nash, and parents, Adelaide and Fred Blackhurst.  Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Stacey Nash England and husband Guy of Paris, Texas; three grandchildren, Harrison and Reid England of Paris, Texas, and Lauren Nash of Austin, Texas; sister, Peggy Brubeck and husband Tom of Strongsville, Ohio; brother Fred Blackhurst and wife Candi of Franklin, Pennsylvania; along with her niece, and “favorite” nephews, and beloved cousins and friends.

If desired, memorials may be made to Paris Education Foundation – The Steve Nash Endowment, PO Box 356, Paris, TX 75461.
