Texas End the Streak
It’s been 24 years since we went a day without a fatality on Texas roads.
TxDOT created #EndTheStreakTX in an effort to raise awareness about the long streak of traffic deaths in Texas and how this is an issue that impacts every Texan.
On average 10 people are killed every single day on Texas roads. 9 out of 10 of those were preventable and happened only because of the choice drivers made behind the wheel. Speeding, distracted driving, driving while impaired, driving too fast for road conditions, reckless driving, aggressive driving are all preventable.
It’s been 24 years since we went a day without a vehicle related fatality on Texas roads. We need ALL Texans to commit to doing their part in helping us end the streak of daily deaths.
My ten-year-old daughter, Vera Lynn, was killed by a driver who lost control doing 17 mph over the posted speed limit on I-35W in Alvarado Texas, May 10, 2015. The other vehicle crossed the median and slammed into their car.

Vera was seat belted in the right back seat of her mother’s car.
