Universal Fabricating has been awarded the prestigious Industry of the Year Award by the Paris Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) at the 121st Annual Lamar County Chamber of Commerce Celebration. This recognition underscores the company’s exceptional contributions to economic growth, job creation, and community development in Lamar County. Founded in Kingsville, Ontario, Canada, Universal Fabricating made a groundbreaking decision in 2023 to select Lamar County as its first U.S. expansion. The move was marked by an announcement of 100 new high-wage manufacturing jobs and over $16 million in new investment.

PEDC Executive Director Maureen Hammond highlighted the significance of this project, noting that it represents the first substantial foreign direct investment in Lamar County in over two decades. “Since you have opened this facility, you have made impressive strides in job creation, investment, and economic impact that have exceeded expectations,” Hammond said. “Universal represents the positive impact that our economy needs to continue thriving and growing.” The company has quickly become an essential part of the local economy, demonstrating a firm commitment to innovation and community engagement.

With a current workforce of more than 100 employees, Universal Fabricating is on track to make a projected economic impact of $300 million over the next decade. “Winning the Industry of the Year award is not just a recognition of our hard work; it’s a testament to our team’s dedication, innovation, and commitment to excellence,” said Neil Harms, President and Owner of Universal Fabricating. “Together, we are shaping the future of our industry.” The following day, Universal Fabricating hosted a celebratory luncheon with their employees, PEDC Board members, and county and city representatives. A highlight of the event was the unveiling of a brand-new banner proudly showcasing the award, symbolizing the hard work and dedication that secured this recognition.

Universal Fabricating’s facility in Sumner, Texas, is strategically positioned to serve the automotive, airport, and logistics industries across the United States and Mexico. The company’s success story is not solely about economic metrics but also about fostering meaningful careers and supporting families within Paris and Lamar County. “We are proud to name Universal Fabricating as Industry of the Year and are thankful for their investment in our region,” said Hammond.
