August meant dropping those little snot nosed curtain climbers back off at school and starting the cycle again for sports, events, and other extra-curricular school activities. There was no better reason to sneak out of the house for some adult time and a Smoke Night.

There is one line of cigars at Rigby’s Cigars & Lounge that has the most wall space in the humidor and this month they hit the spotlight. The first cigar we ever “officially” rated was in February of 2019 and it ended up being our #3 Cigar of the Year (COY). That was the Perdomo Factory Tour Blend Maduro Torpedo 6 1/2″x54-gauge. We had another Perdomo in July of ’19 and again in September of 2022 when we met “Perdomo Pat” for the first time. We were glad to welcome Pat Jones back in, he is the Perdomo Sales Representative for North TX, OK, AR, and part of LA. Typically, the reps or owners that we spotlight at our cigar events tell us what we were smoking, the blend, and the story behind it. Not only did he do that for this event, he broke out a first for the club, we played a video on the big tv’s that was created by Perdomo’s Vice-President, Athur Kemper. The video walked you through the complete seed to cigar process at their factory and farms in Nicaragua. It was very cool and educational to see it while he explained it to us in a way that only a longwinded and colorful Pat can.
If you haven’t tried a Perdomo Cigar, or know who Nick Perdomo Jr is, then you are missing out on one of the biggest names in the cigar industry and what I would consider as one of the Top 5 Cigar Companies. They have received solid ratings for years and were the Cigar of the Year in the Top 25 of 2021 with Cigar Journal. They also received the Best Brand – Nicaragua for 2018 & 2019 and Best Value – Nicaragua in 2012 with Cigar Journal.
We are a family owned and operated company headquartered in Miami, Florida with agricultural and manufacturing facilities in Estelí, Nicaragua. As a vertically integrated cigar manufacturer, we control every process, from our agricultural operations in the fertile valleys of the Estelí, Condega, and the famed Jalapa regions in Nicaragua to our distribution center in Miami, Florida.
Perdomo Cigars is the only cigar manufacturer to completely absorb the punitive SCHIP federal excise tax on all of its brands, and we will continue to do so. As a family business, we have held our prices and, in many cases, reduced them in order to be extremely competitive. Our approach is to continue offering the highest quality premium cigars at affordable prices.
Not every cigar is made the same way. It takes 3,054 steps to make a PERDOMO Cigar from seed to finished cigar. This is the PERDOMO Way… https://www.perdomocigars.com/the-perdomo-way
For August, we had the Perdomo 30th Anniversary Box Pressed Sun Grown Epicure (Toro) in a 6″x54-gauge. This is the only line Perdomo makes that comes in a box of 30 in celebration of their 30th Anniversary in the Premium Cigar world. It is a medium-full bodied cigar that has a 15-year-old bourbon barrel-aged Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Sun Grown Wrapper over 15-year-old Cuban-seed Nicaraguan Binders and Fillers. Let me say that again, 15-year-old tobacco that was meticulously stored, maintained, and aged for 15 years before being used for this line. To give you an idea of how special this cigar is, let me break Perdomo sales down for you. Perdomo has between 3500-4000 brick and mortar store accounts in the US, some of those accounts may be just one cigar shop like Rigby’s, while other accounts may be for 2, 3, or 8 stores under one account. The Perdomo 12th Anniversary Cigar line is only available for purchase by 150 of those accounts. That’s under 4% of the cigar shops being able to order and stock them. For the 30th Anniversary line, only 75 accounts nationally can order it. That is 2% of all cigar stores in the US. Yes, Rigby’s is one of those locations that carry both!
With 62 people present and a whopping 21 comments on the rating cards all basically saying “Great Cigar” it received a Redneck Ratin of 93 out of 100!
Our sponsor for this event was Peoples Bank with our own W. Chance Abbott. They have been named the “Best Bank to get a Mortgage” for the 5th year in a row. “People helping people!” is their motto and how they do business. A local community bank focused on local people!
