DeadCat Announces Premiere of “Arm’s Length”

DeadCat Media is thrilled to announce the premiere of their latest short film, “Arm’s Length,” featuring Paris ISD Alumni Luke De la Garza. The film will debut on the We Are PTX YouTube channel on September 10, following an exclusive premiere event held on September 7.

“We are proud to release this short film featuring Paris ISD Alumni, Luke De la Garza,” said DeadCat Co-Founder Lea Emerson. “Our director, Zachary, has put in countless hours, thought, and creativity to bring this project to life. It was a true team effort involving Farmer’s Bank & Trust, our team here at DC, Paris ISD, and many local community members. We hope you enjoy the film!”

About Luke De la Garza

Luke De la Garza, a Paris High School Alumni, began his swimming career in the 8th grade under the mentorship of Toni Luscavage and Chris Donnan. Coached by Crystal Henry at Paris High School, Luke broke five school records, including:

  • 50 freestyle
  • 200 freestyle
  • 100 breaststroke
  • 100 butterfly
  • 100 backstroke

Luke advanced to state to compete in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events. He graduated as the valedictorian of Paris High School’s Class of 2024 and is now attending The University of Texas at Austin to pursue a degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

The Making of “Arm’s Length”

Sponsored by Farmer’s Bank & Trust and created in collaboration with Paris ISD, “Arm’s Length” showcases archival footage shot by David and Jennifer De la Garza dating back to 2016. Directed and shot by Luke’s brother, DeadCat’s multi-media producer Zachary De la Garza, the film emphasizes the importance of family and community.

Filming began on January 24, 2024, and concluded on May 30, 2024, capturing key moments such as:

  • Practices at Rockwall Aquatic Center of Excellence
  • Regional Swim Meet in Frisco
  • Personal PFA Weight and Swim Practice sessions
  • Texas State Swim Meet in San Antonio
  • Paris High School 2024 Graduation

The film also includes interviews with significant figures in Luke’s life, highlighting the support and inspiration he received from his mentors and community.

A small premiere event was held at DeadCat’s studio on September 7 to celebrate the launch of “Arm’s Length” before its public release on the We Are PTX YouTube channel on September 10.
