Sara Humphries Hunt || Obituary
Sara Humphries Hunt peacefully passed away on August 24, 2024, in Keller, Texas, at age 91.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 2:00 pm at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Sara was born on October 8, 1932, to Griffin and Agnes Humphries. She grew up in Cheverly, Maryland with her parents and younger sister, Jane. She earned a degree in Home Economics from Carson Newman College in 1954, then entered medical technology school in Memphis, Tennessee. She worked as a medical technologist at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, where she rose to be head of the chemistry department.
On February 17, 1968, she married Dr. Harold E. Hunt, Sr. of Paris, Texas. They had been married for 43 years when he died in 2011. They loved to travel and began their marriage with a trip to Acapulco for their honeymoon followed by a trip around the world for their first anniversary. They lived in Paris and attended First Baptist Church for all of their married life. They taught the Young Adult Married Sunday School class for over twenty years and made many lifelong friends from the families they mentored. Sara also sang in the sanctuary choir for many years along with being a member of the medical auxiliary, the Paris Garden Club, and the Cosmos Club.
Harold and Sara raised two sons, Harold Gene and Michael. She tirelessly and graciously loved and supported her husband and her boys. She hosted countless gatherings and special dinners for family and friends at their home. She was most known for her caring hospitality and her love for God as she would often go out of her way to serve or celebrate friends and family.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister. She is survived by her son Harold and his children: Cole, Grayson and Ella, and her son Michael, his wife Jennifer and their children: Meghan, Griffin and Nathan. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Sara’s caregivers and healthcare providers who selflessly cared for her as she neared the end of life.
Pallbearers will be Griffin, Nathan, Cole, Grayson, Chip, Evan, Justin, and Forrest Hunt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron, Richard, and Tom Hunt.
