Sonya was born August 15, 1942, the daughter of Aliene Kilgore and Rudolph Sherwood. Sonya accepted Christ and was born again in 1954. She graduated from West Lamar High School and Paris Junior College. She married the love of her life, Jerry Thrasher, on September 16, 1961. That union brought forth what would become Sonya’s greatest treasure, her family; son, David and daughter-in-law Kelli; granddaughters, Meredith and Anna Grace were her greatest blessings, and she loved them beyond measure.
She and Jerry owned and operated Thrasher Art Gallery for 60 plus years. Jerry was the artist, and Sonya was the Business Manager of all operations. They traveled nationwide to art shows, and to buyers and collectors of Thrasher art.
Sonya and Jerry were members of East Paris Baptist Church for many years. Sonya, a faithful follower of Christ, served the Lord in many ways. She was a Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible School worker, choir member, and loved caring for elderly members. They are now members of First Baptist Church.
Sonya was a great cook and was known for her homemade pies and cobblers. She loved hosting family, friends, and business acquaintances at her home, but her favorite title was “MeeMaw”.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jerry and her immediate family; also, brother-in-law, Ronnie and wife Linda Thrasher; sister-in-law, Linda Sherwood; sister, Jennifer Foster and husband Clark; numerous nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
A special appreciation goes to Platinum Home Health, their nurses and Sarah George for taking care of Sonya during her illness. Also, the family extends a special thanks for prayers, cards, and phone calls from all her friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to your church, ministry, or favorite charity.
Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.
