July 8, 2024

Joy Edmiaston Haynes, aged 97, passed away on July 6, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.

Born on November 9, 1926, in Paris, Texas, Joy was a beacon of happiness and refinement throughout her life.  Her style and love of beautiful clothing led to a scholarship to the Tobe-Coburn School for Fashion in New York City, which paved the way for a brief career at Sanger Harris in Dallas. She was also a proud graduate of Oklahoma A&M, where she majored in Home Economics and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.  She taught Home Economics at Paris High School for 5 years. Joy soon married a hometown boy, Joe Earl Haynes, and they resided in Dallas for over 60 years.  Joy’s love of style and elegance also led her to establish Crown Linens & Antiques, a successful part-time antique business that she cherished until its closure a decade ago.

Joy’s legacy is carried on by her sister, Ouida E. Black, her children, Holly H. Morgan (Kevin) and Cory J. Haynes (Melissa), her grandchildren, Molly E. DiLeo (Nick), Hunter R. Haynes, Wesley E. Morgan (Randa), Eva K. Goddette (Ross), and Jackson L. Miller, and her great grandchildren Rowan Morgan and Camille DiLeo. She is also survived by her cousin, Robert Gregg of San Jose, CA. Joy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joe E. Haynes, and her parents, Inez S. and Alvin L. Edmiaston. Joy was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Paris, TX, and John Calvin Presbyterian Church in Dallas, TX, where she participated in community and spiritual activities.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home in Paris, Texas. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home is assisting the family during this time. Joy’s life was a true embodiment of her name, as she would often spontaneously break out in dance, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
