Micheal Gene Vickers || Obituary
He was born on November 25, 1947, to Onas L and Pauline (Coe) Vickers in Lamar County. He attended Blossom Schools before moving to Powderly where his family owned and operated a dairy farm. He graduated from Powderly High School in 1965 and later attended Paris Junior College and East Texas State University in Commerce Texas. He was a member of Family Worship Center and a Mason of Paris Lodge 27.
Gene married Martha Genell Handley on July 15, 1966, and from that union, three children were born, Michelle, Christy, and Michael Jr. Although they divorced, they remained close friends until her death.
Gene later married Linda Carol Risinger Locke on November 24, 1977, and together had one daughter, Chanda. They also divorced but remained close friends until his death.
Gene worked at Superior Switchboard, Babcock & Wilcox, and later was the owner of Vickers Grocery. He also managed several fast-food businesses and a car wash in the Dallas area. In 1991, he returned to Paris and started his own construction and remodeling business continued until his retirement.
His hobbies included fishing and drag racing. He was co-owner of the racing team Vickers & Locke and the car, (Blood, Sweat and Tears). The car was a continuous thrill for the viewing audience at the local Paris Drag Strip during the early 70’s. But his most treasured time was spent with his family, his children and his grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his children’s mother Genell Vickers Cross, two brother-in-laws Terry Rogers and Roger Jones, and a nephew Dusty Jones.
He is survived by his children, Michelle Dixon (Stan), Christy Seals (David), Michael Vickers Jr., and Chanda Sacca (Jon). Five grandchildren, Jarrett Langley, Kala Vickers and fiance’ Trent Fells, Jeremy Seals, Jordan Seals, and Jade Laster and one great granddaughter, Lilly Langley. His three sisters who always competed to be his favorite, Jan Rogers, Sandy Jones and Vickie Powell (Roger) and many friends. He is also survived by his best friend and caretaker Linda Vickers. Gene couldn’t have received better care than he did from Linda and his children. Also, the family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice and his nurse, Jamie for caring for Gene.
Grandchildren will be honorary Pallbearers.
Service will be Saturday June 15, 2024 at Family Worship Center at 2:00 pm, with internment at Meadowbrook Gardens
Family visitation will be Friday June 14, at Fry & Gibbs from 6-7 pm.
