Edwin Earl Dean || Obituary
Edwin Earl Dean, 93, of Detroit, Texas passed away peacefully Friday, June 7, 2024.
Edwin was born May 11, 1931, the son of John Albert and Clementine Amanda Ellis Dean, in Red River County, Texas. He married his wife, Betty Lou Melton, in 1950. They had 3 children together. They were married 40 years at the time of Betty’s death in 1990. Edwin then married Evelyn Self Minton who passed away in 2011.
Edwin began working at his father’s sawmill at a young age. He then joined the United States Navy at the age of 16, where he had served 20 years upon his retirement in 1968 at the rank of Chief Boatswains Mate. After his retirement from the Navy, Edwin again retired as the Head of Maintenance of St. Joseph Hospital in Paris, Texas. Edwin and Evelyn then moved to Harlingen, Texas where they enjoyed boating, fishing and travelling the country in their RV.
Hobbies Edwin enjoyed the outdoors camping, fishing, hunting and travelling. He was an avid Cowboys fan. He also enjoyed telling stories of the many memories he had of his time in the Navy.
Edwin accepted Christ as his savior and was baptized in McKinney, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his wife Evelyn; father, John; mother, Clementine; sister: Melba Ruth Dean Pickens and brothers, James Dean and John Robert Dean.

He is survived by his children, son Steven Dean and wife, Sheila, son John Dean and wife Elaine, and daughter Janeece Caldwell. Edwin has six grandchildren, Darrell Caldwell of Eureka, California, Shawn Caldwell of Novice, Bridget Townsley of Waco, Alex Dean of Allen, Stephanie Murphy of Aledo and Ellen Feste of Austin. His 6 great grandchildren are Serena Caldwell, Caroline Dean, Axel Dean, Sloane Murphy, Jude Murphy and Liam Feste.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 11 a.m. June 14, 2024, at Detroit Cemetery, Brother John Cannon will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home of Paris.
