Williams

Virginia Louise Sutherland Williams, devoted wife to the late George Henry Williams and mother of Don, Janett, Susan, and Paul, died at the age of 96 on June 7, 2024, at Paris Regional Health.

Virginia was born on Aug. 25, 1927, in Bradley, Lafayette County, Arkansas to Garrett Munford Sutherland of Ivanhoe, Texas and Clara Lee Emmons of Vivian, Louisiana.

George and Virginia met at Saunders Drug Store soda fountain on the Bonham town square in October 1943 and were married three months later on New Year’s Eve. They moved to Paris after the end of World War II and were active members of the North Star 8 Square Dance Club, and Virginia was a member of the Theta Epsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Mrs. Williams was renowned for her high-quality needlework creating traditional design quilts, hand-knit garments and crochet afghans. Her later years’ driving force was perfecting her backyard flower garden, and rewarding herself with one of her profoundly delightful homemade desserts.

The Williamses raised their children in the same home they established in 1950. George & Virginia were blessed with grandchildren Dale & Laurie, Donna & Shayne, Lee, Melissa & Jason, Kristi & José, Davy, Matt & Christine, Sean & Jim, and Vesta, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, George, their daughter Janett Lynn Williams Bean and grandson Michael David Bean. Also preceding her in death were her brothers Garrett David Sutherland, Freddie George Sutherland, Vernon Douglas Sutherland, and Billy O’Neal Sutherland.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home will make a private burial in Meadowbrook Gardens on Tuesday, June 11, 2024.
