Jack William Mason || Obituary

Jack William Mason, of Roxton, Texas, peacefully joined our Heavenly Father in the early
morning hours of June 5, 2024, at the age of 91. He lived a long and honorable life. Born in
Roxton, Texas on July 12, 1932, he was the son of Rosser Earl Mason and Clyde Smith
Mason. The youngest of 4 boys, he would eventually be the father of 5 children.

Jack graduated high school in Roxton and graduated with a master’s degree from East Texas
State University. He served our country as a pilot in the United States Navy and was
honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. He later flew as a pilot for American
Airlines and flew many passengers over his 28-year career and retired as a Captain.

Upon retirement, Jack returned to his hometown of Roxton, Texas where he enjoyed cattle
ranching, farming, and helping his many friends and neighbors. He served on the Lamar
County Water Board, and for over 25 years he was the Owner and Publisher of the local
community newspaper the Roxton Progress. Jack was a member of the Masonic Lodge
since the age of 21 and was a lifelong member of the Roxton United Methodist Church.

Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, and mother of his 5 children, Dorothy Lou Fox
Mason of Paris, Texas, and recently by his second wife of 28 years, Linda Kay Ozment
Mason of the Commerce Texas area. Jack is survived by his children: David Mason of
Granbury, Texas; Danny Mason of Allen, Texas; Ross Mason of Austin, Texas; Linda Mason
Helms and husband Bruce of Georgetown, Texas; and Anna Mason Soneff and husband
Greg of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by his stepsister Emily Jolly Mason O’Connor
and husband Gary of Powderly, Texas, 7 grandchildren, a step-granddaughter, 4 great
grandchildren, 2 step-great grandchildren, several in-laws and numerous nieces and
nephews, and lots of friends. Jack was blessed in recent months with the love and support
for him and his family by his sister-in-law Melverne Ozment and her daughters Lisa Ozment
Venable and Tracy Ozment McQueary.

A memorial service in his honor will be held in Roxton, Texas at the Roxton United
Methodist Church fellowship hall (next to the church) on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, with a
visitation at 1:00 pm, service at 2:00 pm, and a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the
family would appreciate donations be made to the ongoing restoration project of the
Roxton United Methodist Church. Donations can be sent to the church at PO Box 158,
