James Boyd Lewis


James Boyd Lewis, a resident of Detroit, Texas, passed away on Thursday, May 9th at 92.

Visitation will be at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home, Paris Texas on Sunday, May 12th from 5 – 7 p,m. The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Monday, May 13th, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Detroit Cemetery. Brother James Parker of Golden, Texas will officiate the service.

James Boyd was born to Paul D Lewis and Alpha Patterson on February 6th, 1932 in Fulbright Texas. James Boyd married Henrietta McCoy on June 23rd, 1951. They were married for 73 years and worked alongside each other for most of their working careers. He was a talented butcher for years before becoming a business owner of Lewis’ Grocery in Mineola, Texas. He was also an owner of Detroit Superette before starting Detroit Processing in 1980. After retirement, they were part-time gate attendants at Pat Mayes Lake where they enjoyed camping and fishing. James was a member of Martin Memorial Methodist Church of Detroit and a former Mineola Volunteer Fire Department member and Mineola Lions Club member.

James was the father of three daughters, Brenda Lewis Hall and husband West (Copper) Hall of Mineola, Texas, Sandra Lewis Largent and husband Earnest Largent of Mineola, Texas and Pamela Lewis Chennault of Paris, Texas; sister-in-law, Isabell Pickering and husband Eddie of Paris, Texas. He was a grandfather of 8 grandchildren, Westley Hall and wife Tiffany of Mineola, Texas, Leslie (Bubba) Hall and wife Melinda of Mineola, Texas, Brian Chaney of Allen, Texas, Michael Chaney, of Mineola, Texas, Chris Largent and wife Jana of Mineola, Texas, Tiffany Chennault Coward and husband Jayson of Paris, Texas, Amy Chennault Hudson and husband Chad of Paris, Texas, Derek Chennault and wife Jessica of Paris Texas. James also had 12 great-grandchildren, with number 13 on the way, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alpha Lewis; brothers, John Eldar Lewis, and Paul Kent Lewis; sisters, Dorothy Ritchie, Virginia (Bill) Colemen, Marie Shelton and Geraldine Graves.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Westley Hall, Leslie (Bubba) Hall, Brian Chaney, Michael Chaney, Chris Largent, Derek Chennault, Jayson Coward, and Chad Hudson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jock Ritchie, Harlin Brown, Clayton Smoot and nephews, Glenn Coleman, Tony Graves, Steve Lewis and Lee Tigert.
