Douglas A Weiberg

Douglas A Weiberg, 84, died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Pine Tree Ranch Assisted Living after a long battle with dementia.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and PePaw and a friend and mentor to many who loved God, family, country, and community.  A memorial service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour before the service.

Doug was born on Nov. 25, 1939, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Arnold Stewart Weiberg and Audrey Williams Weiberg.  He graduated from Rochester High School in 1957 and joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduation.  He worked on fuel systems on B-52’s learning skills that prepared him for his life’s work that followed.  He went to work as a field engineer for IBM  in Rochester in 1961 after his military duty was completed and was transferred to the IBM Dallas office where he was moved to Paris as the IBM field engineer for the Paris area in 1970, eventually retiring from IBM and opening an office machine repair and supply business in Paris in 1975.  He was an entrepreneur who opened and operated several businesses in Paris after this first venture including Just Between Friends, Just Cappuccino, Café Java, and Professional Business Systems.

He will be best remembered for his vision and community projects that he spearheaded and led over the years, including the Celebrate America July 4 Parade and the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial.  It was his love of country and community that fueled his passion for both of these projects, and his enthusiasm helped him to get the people and business leaders to support the projects and make them a reality and asset for the Paris community that he loved.  Over the years Doug was a member of the Lions Club, Rotary Club, and Reno Kiwanis. He was a long-time member of the Red River Valley Honkers Antique Automobile Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Paris.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jan,  Three daughters; Connie Ballard (Barry), Kathy Nichols (Stacey), and Amy Bolton (Jerry); stepson, Keith Compton (Angela); ten grandchildren, Ashley Nichols (Rod), Calley Luetge (Lance), Kasey Hooks (Brandon), Emily Luper (J.T.), Christopher Ballard (Jacie), Michael Ballard (Raegan), Callie Sugg White, Austin Sugg (Taylor), Jeremy Bolton (Bailey), and Jamie Bolton; fifteen great-grandchildren with three on the way; sister, Sue Backus of Virginia and several special nieces and nephews.  He was pre-deceased by his parents; brothers, Jim Weiberg and Thomas Weiberg; nephews, Ted Weiberg and Tom Weiberg; and a great-niece Hannah Weiberg.
