James Ronald Moon, 76 years of age from Powderly died on Feb. 4, 2024

Visitation will be held Friday, February 9th from 6-8 p.m. at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, February 10th at 10 a.m. at Red Hill Cemetery in Powderly.

James Ronald Moon was born on March 27, 1947, in Denison to Evelyn Travis Moon and Dempsey Moon.

James grew up in the Georgetown (Pinchem) and Pottsboro area. He was known to his siblings and other family members as “Jug”. He joined the U.S. Army on July 21, 1966, and was stationed at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, Fort Polk, Louisiana and Vietnam where he served as a combat engineer. After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked as a boat mechanic on Lake Texoma.

James married the love of his life, Judy Leever on March 27, 1970. They met on a blind date, courted and two months later married on his birthday, he said that was as soon as he could talk her into marrying him. They were married for over 53 years. They raised their daughters and made their home in Powderly.

James is survived by his wife, Judy Leever Moon; Daughters, Teresa Moon Niblett and husband Brian, Ronda Moon Swaim and husband Stephen. Grandchildren, Evan Cole Niblett, wife Tayla, James Dalton Swaim, Shelby Ann Niblett, Reese Elizabeth Swaim, Laney Claire Swaim, and one great-granddaughter, Conlee Blair Niblett. Siblings; Sharon Lee Harmon, David Moon and wife Linda, Shirley Foust and husband Donnie, Dennis Moon and sister-in-law Sharon Moon. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Dempsey Moon, mother and father-in-law, Jesse and Tommie Leever, brother Michael Moon and sister-in-law, Jerry and Jean Dolf.
