Virginia Lee Clayton, 86, of Garland, formerly of Cunningham, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, at Advance Rehabilitation in Garland.

Bright-Holland Funeral Home has scheduled services for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1, 2024, at the Pavilion of Restland Cemetery in Cunningham with Pastor Howard Pierson officiating.

Mrs. Clayton, the daughter of Benjamin Cruise & Tommie Robinson Cruise, was born July 2, 1937, in Cunningham. After graduating from Cunningham High School, she worked in the fields near Cunningham and West Texas picking cotton. Her career with Varo in Garland spanned more than twenty-five years before her retirement. 

She was affectionately known as “Granny” to many of the neighborhood children and even some adults.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Benjamin Clayton, a son-in-law, Marcos Castillo, and three brothers, Leonard Cruise, James Cruise, and Monroe Cruise.

Survivors include three children, Franklin Clayton & wife Debbie, Tanya Castillo, and Sherrie Castillo, eight grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Betty Sharp and Linda Abercrumbia along with numerous nieces & nephews and a host of friends.

Casket bearers will be Jonathan Castillo, Joshua Castillo, Jake Clayton, Juan Cerda, Jr., Michael Castillo, & Charles Castillo.
