Opal Geneice Grant

The family of Opal Geneice Grant announces the departure of their beloved aunt and devoted member of the Paris Church of Christ. The fourth child born to the late Zoel and Opal Watson, Geneice died peacefully and comfortably in her own home on Saturday, December 23, 2023, surrounded by her family.

Geneice’s family will receive friends at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2023, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home at 730 Clarksville Street, Paris, Texas, 75460. Graveside services will be held at Providence Cemetery at 4680 Farm Road 195, Paris, Texas, 75462.

Geneice was a lifelong Christian who had a servant’s heart, and she loved volunteering at the Food Pantry in Sherman.  Among her many interests, Geneice liked growing flowers and vegetables in her raised bed garden. Geneice enjoyed the outdoors, especially in Alaska where she lived off the grid before the lifestyle gained popularity.  Her keen interest in history led her to several museums and historical sites, but she was more interested in her own family history, sharing her genealogical discoveries with family members. Geneice loved to sing, whether at church services or during impromptu sing-alongs on car rides. She also enjoyed playing games; Rummikub, dominoes, and Yahtzee were her favorites. Equally talented at painting and baking, Geneice produced numerous works of art for both the eyes and the tastebuds. Her baking proficiency intersected with her entrepreneurial spirit, and for several years she owned and operated her own professional bake shop in New Mexico called Granny G’s Bake Shop.

Known affectionately as Geneice, Aunt Gece, Aunt Geice, Aunt G, and GeGe, Geneice had numerous friends and an extensive family. A beloved sister in Christ, Geneice loved her church family, and she spent considerable time with them at regular church services and during many church activities. She was an aunt, a great-aunt, and a great-great-aunt. She was also a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother.

Geneice is preceded in death by her parents Zoel and Opal Watson; her brother Herbert Watson; her sisters Elna Pollock and Sybol Kirby; her nephew Buddy Palmer; her grandson Matthew Kayser; and her husband Milton Kayser. Geneice is survived by her brother Doyl Watson and wife Cheryl; niece Sandy Kelly and husband Harry; niece Cindy Palmer; nephew Curt Richmond and wife Maggie; nephew Donnie Richmond; nephew Randy Richmond; and children Jim Kayser, Dave Kayser, Cheryl Kayser, Linda Kayser, and Mike Kayser and wife Patricia; grandchildren LindsayClanagan, LeAnn Rushing, and NathanielWarren; as well as several other grandchildren, many other nieces and nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers include Zoel Kelly, Shane Kelly, Cody Kelly, Jonah Kelly, Carlos Herrera, and Landen Herrera. Honorary pallbearers include Django Kelly and Maverick Kelly.

Geneice’s family wants to express their gratitude to Waterford Hospice and especially to Britney, Wendy, and Lexi for their compassion and sensitivity. Their skillful and careful attention to Geneice supported her peaceful transition and encouraged her family.

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations can be made to Paris Church of Christ in loving memory of Geneice Grant.
