Senior Master Sargent Robert T. Love

Senior Master Sergeant Robert T. Love, U.S. Force (retired), died peacefully at his home in Powderly, TX on Dec. 12, 2023. He was 100 years old.

He was born in Chicota, on Dec. 13, 1923, the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G.H. Love. Following graduation from Chicota High School, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps (forerunner to the U.S. Air Force) in 1942 and spent over 23 years on active duty at duty stations throughout the United States and abroad. His service spanned World War II, the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. After retiring from the Air Force in 1966, he spent over 20 years as a Communication Technician with AT&T in Dallas before moving to Powderly.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing but his passion in the later years of his life was woodworking. He turned and gave away countless pens, bowls, letter openers, pepper mills, bottle stoppers and other items made from exotic woods. He was also known for his dry sense of humor.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Pamela Mehlhoff and husband, Jim of Spokane, WA and three sons: Robert Kendall Love and wife, Tonya of Princeton; John Timothy Love and wife, Kathy of McKinney, and Jim Love and wife, Elsie of Paris; eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, his parents and two brothers, Charles Harry and Don Edwin.
