Vera Inez Shawhart || Obituary

Vera Inez Shawhart, 93, of Arthur City, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at Legend Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11^th at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Shawhart, the daughter of Edgar Sherman VanDeaver & Mary Lena Gasaway VanDeaver, was born on Jan. 1, 1930, in Red River County.

On July 3, 1944, she married Andrew C. Shawhart, building 73 years of family and memories before his death on Jan. 2, 2018. She was also preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Karson Nichols, and a brother, Edgar Paul VanDeaver.

Inez attended nursing school at Paris Junior College, where she received her Registered Nurse Degree. Her career with St. Joseph’s Hospital spanned many years before her retirement. She was a member of East Paris Baptist Church. She was a caring person and very patient. Inez loved animals, flowers and sewing.

Survivors include two children, Sharon Crawford & husband Gary and Stanley Shawhart & wife Darla, grandchildren, Sheri Starkey, Sheila Lobert & husband Thomas, Heath Shawhart, and Trista Nichols & husband Matt, great-grandchildren, Sarah Starkey, Railynn Nichols, Kyra Nichols, Tommy Lobert, Shyloh Nichols, Brylee Nichols, Briscoe Nichols, and Weston Shawhart, and numerous nieces & nephews including Sara Rodgers & husband Richard along with a host of friends.
