Bobby Ray Cooper of Roxton || Obituary

Bobby Ray Cooper, 74, of Roxton, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at First Baptist Church Roxton with Paster Chuey Potter and Cody Aaron. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Roxton.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home.

Bobby was born on Aug. 11, 1949, in Paris to Walter and Alma Gatlin Cooper. In his early years, he laid tile with his brother-in-law, Pat Duke. He later began farming and raising cattle. He also helped his brother, James Sam at his gas station until James Sam passed away at which time he assumed ownership. He continued farming and operating the station until his health forced him to stop working. He loved the farm life even though it was backbreaking work and the hours were long and the money was sometimes short. For the last 12 years, his work at the gas station gave him much satisfaction and he made lots of friends, loved his customers and appreciated their business. He was one of the founding members of the Roxton Volunteer Fire Dept and always supported it. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Roxton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Walter Jr. and James Sam Cooper; and one sister, Sammie Jo Maness.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Brenda; son, Brent; daughter, Alicia and husband Justin Larkin; Grandchildren, Bryce and Brynlee Cooper and Zane and Kaden Larkin; two sisters, Margaret Peltier and Martha Duke; brother-in-law, David Walker and wife, Lisa and sister-in-law, Linda Cassidy.

Pallbearers will be Bryce Cooper, Zane Larkin, Kaden Larkin, Van Duke, Kieth Cooper, Ronnie Ingram, Harvey McCoin, Dan Ramsey and Johnny Briscoe.

The Cooper Family would like to extend special thanks to our own extra special nurse, Tricia Basden who helped us through this cancer battle, also, Rachel Wood, hospice nurse and family friend who made this time at home a more tolerable experience. We love you both and thank God for you and the work you do.
