Sherry Ann Thompson Doyal || Obituary
Sherry Ann Thompson Doyal was born on Aug. 3, 1948, in Paris, Lamar County, one of six children born to Elmer Elie McLaughlin and Ruby Lee Jane Roach McLaughlin.
Sherry entered death’s slumber on July 8, 2023, at the age of 74, to await the return of our Precious Lord and Savior to take her home.
Although Sherry leaves behind a grieving family who loved her deeply and many, many friends, we should take comfort in knowing that she is free now of the bondage of pain and sickness, sorrow and sadness, and the sins of this world that make it almost unbearable to trudge on at times.
Sherry married James Thomas Thompson on January 8, 1965, in Paris. They had two children, Tonia M. Hobbs and Shellie D. Adams, who both reside in the Paris area. Although Sherry and James divorced in 1993, they remained close friends throughout the years and in most recent years depended on each other greatly and enjoyed each other’s company.
Sherry later married Michael Lynn Doyal, and although they lived apart for many years, they were married at the time of his death on September 3, 2020.
Sherry attended North Lamar ISD’s Aaron Parker School and later attended Paris Junior College where she received her degree to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse.
She worked for hospitals and nursing homes in Paris and the surrounding areas for many years before retiring due to a job-related injury.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Elie and Ruby Lee Jane McLaughlin, her sister, Lenora Richey, brothers, Bobby Wayne McLaughlin, Edwin E. McLaughlin, John Lee McLaughlin, David Lynn McLaughlin, and her nephew, Robby Richey.
Sherry is survived by her loving children, Tonia M. Hobbs, and husband Gene C. Hobbs, Jr., of Powderly, Shellie D. Adams, of Direct, James Thomas Thompson, the greatest love of her life and one of her closest friends, her grandson, Adrian T. Hobbs, and wife Trinity Hobbs, of Denison, grandson, Evan R. Adams and girlfriend, Kellie Daniels, of Direct, great-grandchildren Braydon Adams, Maci Adams, and Faith Ballard, stepdaughter, Lisa Grossnickle and husband Richard Grossnickle of Paris, step-grandsons Dixon and Lucas Grossnickle, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sherry touched the lives of many during her time on this earth and will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in each of the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
