Detroit Independent School District sophomore Laura Cooper was recently elected to serve as secretary for the Paris District FFA.
 
Cooper will serve over 21 local schools in Northeast Texas and 4,000 FFA members. This was accomplished at the Paris District Convention in Mt. Vernon, where she gave a 4-minute speech to over 400 people.
The process for election started in December of 2022 with an application, moving to an interview with two Ag Teachers in January 2023, and a test over FFA knowledge and parliamentary procedure.
Cooper serves as the 2022-23 Detroit FFA President and was the 2021-22 Greenhand President. She is very active in Career Development Events in FFA, where she has qualified for state in Horse Judging.
Cooper also competes in job interviews and Senior quizzes at the District and Area levels in Leadership Events. She shows and raises Registered Brahman Cattle which is her FFA Supervised Agricultural Experience Program. She served as a 2022 Texas FFA State Convention Ambassador this past summer in July as the highlight of her FFA Career.
Cooper is a Sophomore at Detroit High School. She is the daughter of Sam and Christy Cooper.
