Nancy Ruth Murphy || Obituary
Nancy Ruth Murphy was born on Jan. 12, 1961, to Avery Wayne Murphy and Billie Ruth Borden Murphy in McKinney. She passed away on Jan. 28, 2023. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 at First Presbyterian Church Deport.
Nancy was one of the most generous and loving people. She helped people the moment she saw they had a need. She never turned away from suffering but did what she could to alleviate it.
She loved animals, taking in abandoned and injured cats, nursing injured birds back to health and rescuing stray dogs. There is no way to count the number of rescued cats that were taken in spayed or neutered. Some they found homes for but many spend happy lives at the Murphy home.
She referred to herself as a “junker” because she loved prowling garage sales and flea markets for bargains. But her treasures weren’t usually for herself, she found things that she thought her friends would like and gifted them. Her other hobby was gardening, collecting odd rocks and driftwood as accents to let flowers and vines run over.
While daughter Cristina tended to much of the office work at Deport Housing Authority Nancy did maintenance work. When she prepared an apartment, she wanted to make sure it was clean and ready to be comfortable for the new tenants, saying “ I know how I would like it to be if I were moving in”.
She was always ready to help older people who needed something moved, or to help the sick. She gave money, furniture and household items quietly after house fires or when people were down on their luck.
Her sense of humor brought joy to all who visited with her and her heartfelt prayers sustained many. She and Cristina were a familiar pair around Deport and the area.
She was the best of friends, loyal and caring, but the most important person in the world to her was her beloved daughter, Cristina.
Although not a member of any particular church she occasionally attended First Presbyterian Church of Deport, she was deeply religious and she exemplified Christian values by living them.
She is survived by her daughter, Cristina Amanda Murphy of Deport and a nephew, Jeremy Michael McBride of Chicago, Illinois, as well as a host of friends.
