Amid a nationwide freeze in the United States, Texas is bracing for a holiday freeze later this week that will challenge its power grid.

According to Fox Weather reports, a large portion of North Texas will see temperatures drop into the teens and lower 20s as a cold front sweeps the state by the end of the week.

Amid the freeze coming later this week, many are thinking of the power crisis of February 2021 that left many Texans cold and without power for many days. Many during this time also were under a boil water notice.

The company that manages most of the state’s power grid, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, says it will be closely monitoring weather forecasts and “expects sufficient generation to meet forecasted demand and will continue to provide updates”. They also said they had been working closely with the Public Utility Commission for the last year and a half to reform and increase grid reliability.

In a statement, ERCOT President and CEO Pablo Vegas said, “Providing Texans with a reliable electric grid is our highest priority. As we monitor weather conditions, we want to assure Texans that the grid is resilient and reliable… We will keep the public informed as weather conditions change throughout the coming week.”
