Paris Police Department issues reminder || No fireworks allowed within the city
Each year the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission publishes a report on Fireworks-Related deaths, injuries and enforcement activities. During the Calendar year 2021, nine (9) fireworks-related deaths were reported. Fireworks were involved in an estimated 11,500 injuries treated in U.S. hospital emergency departments during the calendar year 2021. There is a significant trend in fireworks-related injuries from 2006 through 2021. This trend estimates an increase of 274 fireworks injuries per year. What is more concerning, is that children younger than fifteen (15) years of age accounted for 29 percent of the injuries in 2021. In addition, an estimated 1500 fireworks-related injuries were attributed to firecrackers and sparklers.
In anticipation of the upcoming New Year’s Holiday and in the interest of public safety, the City Leadership of Paris will maintain a zero-tolerance position with respect to fireworks in accordance with the established municipal code. Anyone found to be in possession of fireworks will be issued a citation with a maximum fine of $500.00, and their respective fireworks will be confiscated.
In accordance with the City of Paris Ordinance 6.04.001 (amended by Ordinance- 2020- 052), and Fire Code 5601.1.3, it is illegal to possess, manufacture, store, sell and use Fireworks within the City of Paris.
