After a two-year hiatus, the Christmas Eve Meal service for Lamar CountyMeals on Wheels is back. “Thanks to Pittin’ & Grillin’ Mobile Smokehouse, we’ll be providing a hot Christmas dinner to our recipients on Christmas Eve, and we are also in need of volunteers,” said Shelly Braziel, Executive Director.
“In the past, we have had a huge turn-out of volunteers, so many that most only have to deliver 3 to 5 meals, getting done in under an hour,” said Braziel.
Volunteers will be provided with a time slot to arrive at the kitchen, located at 1275 19th St. NW, in Paris. Once there, each volunteer will be given the meals that are already packaged as well as a list of addresses to deliver to.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome. “My kids and many of our staff and board member’s kids volunteer at this event each year. It’s something you and your kids won’t soon forget,” said Braziel.
“For many, they wouldn’t be eating a Christmas meal if not for this program, which is why this program is so important. Plus, most of our clients will spend Christmas alone, so volunteers showing up means the world to them.” – Shelly Braziel
Coffee and cookies will be provided to the volunteers and Christmas wear is welcomed. Braziel added “We’d like to thank all our volunteers in advance, including our staff and board who will spend their Christmas Eve feeding our clients. And thank you to Scott Branch and the Pittin’ & Grillin’ family. We couldn’t do this without you.”
Pittin & Grillin can be contacted at 903-517-3240 for holiday catering.
