Seniors from El Paso High School will have to retake their SAT college admissions test after many tests flew out of a UPS truck last month. This is many seniors’ worst nightmare, as many students practice with months of studying before they take the test, now only to retake the test again at a later date. These test results are usually used to finalize college admissions decisions and are a vital aspect of a college application.

Many students saw the bubbled scantrons on Mesa Street on Oct. 28th, only for the school to eventually call a meeting during their last period to deliver the news. Students who had taken the test on Oct. 27 will not have their answers scored because they will now have to retake the test.

In a statement, UPS said, “We have apologized to the school and extend our apologies to the students… The driver’s actions in this case are not representative of UPS protocols and methods, and we have addressed this with him. Safely and reliably meeting our service commitments is UPS’s first priority.”

They were able to recover all of the 315 except for 55 that were not found. Though they found most of the sheets, they are now considered compromised and all students who were among the 315 scantrons must now retake the test.

El Paso ISD is now offering waivers to students who wish to take the ACT testing on Dec. 10, though the admissions tests do have some differences.
