Gifts of Love

The Lamar County Human Resource Council launches its annual Gifts of Love campaign kicks off today at Paris Coffee from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

It’s that time of year and Christmas is right around the corner. But while most of us will spend the holidays with family and friends, many will be alone.
According to Executive Director Shelly Braziel, “the Gifts Of Love program was started more than 10 years ago, a program that allows our Meals on Wheels clients to receive what may be for some, the only gift they get each year.”
Each client in Lamar, Delta, Red River, Hopkins, & Rains gets to ask for things they may want or need. “For some, they have very basic needs such as food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and pet food. For others, it might be a winter coat, socks, underwear, or shoes. We also see a lot of requests for books, some fiction, but many ask for large print bibles.” added Braziel.
After the forms come back in, the staff and volunteers create an adoption card for each client, and those adoption cards go out to designated adoption sites. This year the sites are Paris Coffee Company & South Main Iron.
You can adopt one or more clients beginning Nov 7th. Each card will tell you what the person wants and needs, but you aren’t obligated to buy everything on their list.
Braziel went on to say, “We just ask that you purchase at least one thing they asked for. We also guarantee that if they ask for a coat or jacket, they’ll get one, so if the person you adopted asked for one, please try to get it.”
Once you’ve done the shopping, put the items in a Christmas gift bag and staple the adoption card to the outside of the bag so we know who to deliver it to, and then return the bag to one of our two adoption sites no later than Dec. 5th at 5 p.m.
“We have nearly 700 elderly, disabled, and veterans to get adopted this year, so we need your help. If you just don’t have time, you can make a donation at the square link below, or mail it to P.O. box 714, Paris, TX 75461. Be sure to put Gifts Of Love in the memo of the check. We appreciate this community so much, and I have no doubt every person will be adopted.” – Shelly Braziel
