Clarksville Times closes its doors for good on the heels of controversial editorial

Publisher Patricia Antonelli for the Clarksville Times announced today would be the last and final edition of the 159-year-old newspaper.
Many community members are speculating the closure may be the result of an editorial Antonelli wrote in September titled “Being Stupid Gets You Dead.” The editorial was published right after two local young boys had tragically died in an automotive crash.
The editorial Antonelli wrote seemed to insinuate the boys had perhaps consumed alcohol. However, at the time of publication, the toxicology reports were not in and nothing could be confirmed. Residents of Clarksville were outraged and took to social media calling for subscribers to boycott the newspaper and several local businesses dropped their advertising.
Antonelli stated, “We worked together to make the Clarksville Times a respected publication. I have held on for a year with near-impossible hours. This is it – The End of an Era.”
The newspaper is up for sale as Antonelli said she is in talks with two very interested parties.
