On Saturday, Oct. 22, Paris Police Officer John Simpson and his wife, Tiffany, supported by representatives from the Paris EMS, Paris Fire Department, Paris Coffee and Spiderman (William Norris), surprised 6-year old – Alex Stephens with gifts, smiles, encouragement and tears at Medical City Children’s Hospital in Dallas.

Alex is a 1st Grader in Mrs. Freilinger’s class at Higgins Elementary, North Lamar ISD. He was diagnosed with AtypicalTeratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT), a rare and fast-growing cancerous tumor of the brain and spinal cord in August. Alex has since been undergoing aggressive chemotherapy.

Alex’s mother, Michelle Dimond started Alex’s Army of Angels Facebook page to keep family, friends and the community up to date on his journey. You can join Alex’s Army of Angels here. On the page, there are several different opportunities to help the family with medical expenses and travel as well.

When Amanda Willows, (Lamar County Adopt-A-Cop Founder and President) learned of Alex’s plans to be a police officer when he grows up, she jumped into action. What started as a simple request for some police trinkets quickly grew into a much larger effort that culminated in the surprise visit.

Alex StephensIn addition to the First Responders, Billy and Melisa Norris and family accompanied Officer Simpson and Mrs. Simpson on the trip and Spiderman (their son) who brought a big smile to Alex, his Mom- Michelle Dimond, Sister-Meredith and Brothers- Wyatt and Tyler.
Alex is now a Commissioned Junior Police Officer for the City of Paris. “He is fighting a hero’s battle that a child should never have to, but with God’s help guiding his gifted doctors and lots of prayers, love and support, we will patiently await Alex’s recovery while keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers,” Paris Police Department.
