‘Twister’ sequel set to start filming in 2023

On Tuesday, a representative for Universal announced there will be a sequel to the 1996 hit movie, “Twister”. Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures are developing the sequel with Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal co-financing the film.
According to Universal, the new movie, “Twisters” will have viewers chasing the storm again with a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith.
The original “Twister” was a huge success and sold more than $494 million at box offices worldwide. Jan de Bont directed the original film which featured Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Todd Field.
The 1996 “Twister” was about Hunt’s character, Dr. Jo, Harding, as she and a team of students prepare to test a new data-gathering device whilst in a powerful tornado. The new movie is said to focus on the daughter Helen had with the character played by Bill Paxton.
Universal did not state whether Hunt was signed for the sequel, while other cast members such as Paxton and Hoffman have died in recent years.
According to Deadline, Amblin and Universal are hoping to start filming “Twisters” in the Spring of 2023. They haven’t locked in on a director yet, but some options include Jimmy Chin & Elizabeth Chai Vaserhelyi, and Dan Trachtenberg.
