Halloween Safety Tips || Keep your kids safe
Children’s safety is always the main concern, especially when they are trick-or-treating at night. A good tip if your child is old enough to go out on their own is to teach them to recognize the places along his/her route where they can obtain help; Police Station, Fire Station, neighbors, friends, or any other well-indicated public place.
Trick-or-Treating Safety
- Children should always walk on sidewalks and never cut across yards or driveways
- Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Travel in a group with a trusted adult
- Parents/guardians, it is important to be aware of the route that their children plan to follow. Ensure your child is wearing a watch or has a cell phone, also allows you to establish an agreed-upon curfew
- Trick-or-treaters should only approach houses that are well lit
- Both parents and children should carry flashlights to see and be seen
Costume Safety
- Halloween costumes should be light and bright, so children are visible to motorists and other pedestrians. Add reflective tape to your kid’s trick-or-treat bag and or add arm bands to heighten their visibility
- Costumes should fit properly, if the costume is too long-it may cause kids to trip and fall
- Select a costume that is constructed from flame-retardant materials
- Make sure your vision is not restricted. Masks may require that the eye holes be cut larger for the sake of good peripheral vision
- Shoes should fit properly, even if they do not go well with a costume
