Officer charged with murder of local man sent to Hunt County Jail
Shawn Lucas
The former Wolfe City police officer who is being charged with the 2020 killing of Jonathan Price has been transferred from the Collin County jail to the Hunt County jail where he will remain until his trial begins later this month.
Shawn Lucas was arrested and charged with murder in October of 2020 after shooting and killing Price in Wolfe City. According to reports, Lucas shot and killed Price after an argument between a couple inside a convenience store broke out.
Witnesses said Price was trying to break up the argument in the store, which spilled outside. When officers responded to the scene, they shot Price. Witnesses also said the argument had been settled by the time officers arrived.
Lucas was arrested and his attorney said he discharged his weapon in accordance with state law when “he was confronted with an aggressive assailant who was attempting to take his TASER.”
Texas Rangers investigated the shooting and said Lucas’ actions “were not objectionably reasonable.”
According to the Wolfe City Police Department, he was fired a few days after the arrest. The department released a statement saying he “was terminated for his egregious violation of the City’s and police department’s policies.”
The trial is set for Sept. 12, 2022, in the 354th District County in Hunt County.
