James Ronald “Ronnie” Blount passed away at the age 75 on Monday, August 29, 2022, at his home in the Novice Community. He was born November 16, 1946, to James Cash and Alene Blount.
Ronnie attended Paris Schools and later attended East Texas State University where he majored in architecture. Ronnie worked alongside his father, building homes for Blount and Son Construction. After 35 years, he decided to make a career change. He was introduced to the power industry by longtime friend Dick Daughenbaugh and became a site construction manager for oil and gas power generation companies. He finished his career in the wind turbine energy in 2021. While working in these industries, he was able to travel around the United States. Ronnie was also a Master Sgt. for Army National Guard, Army Reserve, and Texas Air Guard. Ronnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to estate and garage sales, collecting antique wooden lures, hosting his infamous crawfish boils for family and friends, and sitting on his porch watching the deer.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donnie Blount. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Myra; his children Jana Lampton and husband Billy, Jamie Blount and wife Angie, Quincy Blount and wife Tammy; and grandchildren, Haley and husband Dylan Hayes, Taylor Bankston, Rece Bankston, Corbin and Chloe Blount, Adley Blount, Michael and Brooke Lampton, and Ayden Bell. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Cathy Blount-Skidmore, sister, Darlene Peel and husband Butch, nephews Zachary and Nickolas Blount and Christopher Peel; and daughter Stacy Blount-Webb from a previous marriage.
Because Ronnie made the decision to have his body donated to Science to UT Southwestern, there will be no formal burial services. The family will receive friends at Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, between 6:00-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Trooper Jeff Nichols Scholarship Fund at First Federal Community Bank, PO Box 370, Paris, TX 75461.
The family would like to thank Platinum Hospice Care and nurses Jennifer and Ryleigh for their kindness and care shown during these past few weeks.
