Man behind bars for burglary, animal cruelty

A Paris man is behind bars after he was arrested for several outstanding warrants, including burglary and animal cruelty.
According to Paris police officers, the department was called to a criminal trespass call in the 400 block of 3rd Street S.W. around 10 p.m. on Sunday. When officers arrived, they found Richard Derrick Sharp, 38, who had several outstanding warrants.
Police said Sharp was seen on video surveillance removing items from a room in the 2500 block of N. Main Street back in September of 2020. According to police, Sharp was seen striking a dog in the head with a hammer.
Sharp was arrested and taken to Lamar County Jail.
