Applications for Slade Baker Memorial Scholarship now open

Applications for the Slade Baker Memorial Scholarship are now being accepted for those planning to attend fire academy in the fall of 2023. The deadline to submit your application is April 21, 2023.

APPLICATION INFORMATION: The Slade Baker Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to any Lamar county resident who is planning to further their education in the fire service. The $2500 scholarship will be awarded each year to the person chosen by a review board based on public service and a 500 word submitted essay.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

• Plans to attend Fire Academy fall of 2023

• Resident of Lamar County

Please submit this completed application along with a 500 or less word essay to the address listed above. The topic of the essay is “Public Service.” Applicants should address in their essay what public service means to them, and their plans to use a career in public service to improve their community. Applicants are also encouraged to submit documentation outlining prior public service.

The winner of the scholarship will receive a $2,500 scholarship toward a State of Texas fire certification.
