A Greenville winery where gubernatorial candidate Beto O’Rourke was scheduled to talk to constituents has canceled the appearance.

O’Rourke was set to appear at Landon’s Winery on Aug. 13, as part of his statewide campaign tour. Earlier this week, Landon’s Winery owner Bob Landon made the announcement, noting he was canceling the event because he wants to remain politically neutral.

“Landon Winery strives to be apolitical because we want everyone to feel welcome at Landon Winery and enjoy our wines,” he said. “A political event was booked at our Greenville winery without the knowledge of our senior management team. I made the decision to cancel it. Unfortunately, our image has been damaged by both sides of this issue, which is a reminder to us why we do not do politics. This decision is not in response to pressure but rather out of principle. We hope to see everyone again soon.”

According to Larry Davis, chairman of the Hunt County Democratic Party, another venue is being sought.

“We are actively searching for a new venue and will announce the updated location on our Facebook page once details have been confirmed,” he said.

Shame on the people whose immaturity has forced this business to lose event revenue. This enrages me, and I have zero ties to this winery or Beto. What’s next? Are all business owners going to be required to hang a sign stating their political affiliation? You Greenvillers seem to be digressing to your asinine “water cooler” history.

It’s so sad that only ONE political party gets to have a voice in Greenville or anywhere for that matter. The amount of vile hatred and contempt is disgusting. The Founding Fathers would be rolling over now.

I think it’s a smart business move. People are passionate about their political affiliation and make decisions based on that. Just a fact.

    Smart move Mr Landon
