Detroit High School students, along with their Agriculture teacher Tracy Denny, have successfully built a community garden.

“We just had a visit from the state coordinator with Lon Star Ag Credit, with people from their Paris office, who donated money to help with this project,” Denny said. “They also made a video of the students working and planting it for their website.”

According to Denny, the students built the community garden from the very beginning and have since raised 3,000 vegetable plants this spring to give out to the community.

“On May 31, we helped 64 families from 11 local communities to start a garden as they selected 36 or more plants that our students raised as they came to our open house,” Denny added.

More than 83 students helped support this program.

“It will be used to help the community and can be used by any teacher at DISD as an outdoor classroom from Pre-K through 12th grade,” she added.
